When, and in what order to eat things......

I've been hearing from different sources, about when and in what order to eat things. For example it's been said that one should eat his proteins (nuts, grains, avocados... and the like) in the morning. And to eat carbohydrates, vegtables, later in the day. ... And not to eat at all in the evenings.
Then people have told me that you are not to eat acidic fruits right after alkaline vegetables, but to wait an hour before doing so... because the fruits would go undigested unless given their own digestive time.

How many of you have heard anything about these questions? Can you fill me in a little more about a timely way to process our food with conscoius intention?

raw weight loss

i went raw last year and lasted about six months. i am back on the path now, and its been about two weeks so far. when i went raw last year, i lost 30 lbs of excess weight i was carrying. since that time i've put back on about as much.

so my question is this - if i am trying to achieve my natural weight (among wonderful health as well) through raw food then should i be limiting my intake, or will it just come off naturally? last year when i lost the weight i ate as much as i wanted, whenever i wanted, and whatever i wanted so long as it was raw. the weight just came right off me.

but this time the number on the scale isnt budging. should i limit my sugars, or restrict my intake? or just wait and see how my body reacts and adjusts? your thoughts, please?

BAN MIND CONTROL/ DIRECTED ENERGY WEAPONS TORTURE AND ABUSE

I know this sounds like science fiction or a conspiracy theory, but it's not. It is a complete reality and a huge danger to humanity. Please check out the following petition and sign it. As crazy as this may sound but mind control energy weapons is a reality. Millions of people are suffering from the mental abuse and torture of these weapons that are not openely talked about or known, or "declassified." The abuse is largely sexist and racist and targets people who are of certain ethnicities... primarily who are not white. The abuse is deliberate, cruel, and is done by directing energy beams, via satellite or other means, onto the body/person/ brain of the individuals targeting certain centers of the brain to elicit responses or actions. The companies, military, governments who are doing this also use sound weapons to direct sounds, subtle or not, vibrations and energy in the mind or environment of the victims to harrass, abuse, and control the actions of these individuals. Whether they are able to do control the person or not, they definitely abuse and severely mentally and psychologically hurt the victims.

BAN MIND CONTROL/DIRECTED ENERGY WEAPONS TORTURE AND ABUSE

Dehydrator suggestions?

Which dehydrator do you use?
I'm looking to buy one soon. I want a timer and thermostat on it and for it to easily fit into my cabinets.
I'm leaning toward the Excalibur 3526T (5 tray) dehydrator but I've heard of people having problems dehydrating whole fruits (blueberries and cranberries). Does anyone else have problems with that?

hey all, scottie here
im from south east US and am in college earning my undergraduate degree.

I decided to stop eating meat on day in late july 2007 and never went back.
fish was a different story, sushi in particular, but i finally cut fish from my diet in spring 2008.
dairy was next, with the exception of some cheeses and butter in baked goods etc.

but now, NOW, it is time to cut dairy completely out! and to transition to a raw food diet!
juicing sprouting and fermenting.

I have been visiting this tribe regularly for some time! and am exciting that i am now able to post and be a true member of the community!

I began working at an organic locally owned health food store in march and have decided the time is right to go raw.

Talking to a few people in the store, I have been discouraged to abruptly eliminate cooked foods etc from my diet. I have been told it is hard to adjust to without transitioning slowly and there have been extreme cases where people are sick for weeks. maybe these are exaggerations.

Anyway. This week i decided would be a good week to start. maybe one raw meal a day? phasing out of cook foods incorporating more raw foods as much as i can. or would you recommend something different.

any advice or general good vibes you would like to send would be special =)

really, the post is about spreading the good energy, so thank you for being so supportive in the posts i have read in the past and blessings to you all!

peace,
scottie

i have heard of a lot of hardcore vegans that do not consume any honey, and i understand why. a lot of the time the hives are harmed in the harvesting of this sweet golden nectar. as a vegan, do you personally consume raw honey?

An inner emergence is taking place
in farms and villages, tribes and remote islands.

You could pass by one of us on the street
and not even notice

We go undercover
We insinuate into the system

from behind the scenes
It is of no concern to us who takes the final credit
But simply that the work gets done

During the day some of us pretend we have normal jobs
But behind the false storefront and at any hour
is where the real work takes a place

Some might call us the Conscious Warriors
Rainbow Warriors of Light, Spiritual Activists,
Lightworkers, Shamans, Helians [healing beings]

However we know ourselves as,
we are slowly creating a new world

with the power of our minds and hearts
We follow, with passion and joy

Our orders come from from the Central Spiritual Intelligence or The Celestial Concourse Administration...
Whether it's the CSI or the CSA or our own deepest access to global consciousness
We are all dropping soft, secret love b *m b s when no one is looking

We each express ourselves in our own unique ways
with our own unique gifts and talents

Be the change you want to see in the world
That is the motto that fills our hearts.

We know it is the only way real transformation takes place
We know that quietly and humbly we have the
power of all the oceans combined.

Our work is slow and meticulous
Like the formation of mountains
It is not even visible at first glance
And yet with it entire tectonic plates
shall be moved ....

i am hosting a raw food potluck this weekend and dont know what to make as a main dish. i know that i will be serving up a coconut cream pie (recipe courtesy of the cafe gratitude "cook"book) as well as a fresh durian.

any suggestions for a rockin main dish? and remember i will be serving this to multiple guests, so something practical in that regard.
recipes would be most appreciated.

thanks all

raw beets made my throat freak out!

I have eaten raw beets many times and i've had beet juice for years with no problems. But yesterday i pulled a small chioggia beet from my garden, washed it off and ate half of it. It was very tough and hard to chew but the taste was good so i ate it. Within minutes i started to feel a strange burning sensation on my tongue but didn't think much of it as i reached for the other half of the beet and took a bite. By that time, my entire throat was on fire and i was starting to worry that it was going to swell. I tried to relax and observe what was happening, wondering if i was going to have to call 911. The burning got worse and i drank a bunch of water, then had some orange juice thinking that the citrus would wash the beet off of my throat, but that made it burn even more. Luckily my throat didn't swell or close up, but the burning lasted all day and into the night. I went out to the garden and dug up the beet seeds i'd just planted, and replaced them with lettuce. No more beets for me!

Has anyone ever had this happen before? Someone mentioned in another post that chard burned their throat. I eat chard from the garden all the time and have no problem with it. I also put the greens from these beets in smoothies. I'm very sad about this. I used to have reactions to processed foods but i never thought it would ever happen from something i grew in the garden.

raw almonds now unhealthy:

according to this:

On Friday, I blew the whistle on the FDA for allowing almond manufacturers to label pasteurized almonds as "raw." It's unethical and illegal—and it's tragic that such a nutritious food would be nutritionally castrated by the powers-that-be.

But what I didn't tell you on Friday is that there are plenty of issues beyond the fact that almonds will no longer be a nutritional heavyweight — like the fact that consuming them could now pose a threat to your health.

The pasteurization method the FDA is recommending requires the use of propylene oxide. Let me tell you a little something about the chemical that's supposed to make almonds safer for you to eat.

For starters, it's a recognized carcinogen. A pollution information site called Scorecard says that propylene oxide is in the top 10 percent of compounds that are hazardous to human health and to the ecosystem. In six out of twelve ranking systems, it's ranked as one of the most hazardous chemicals.

It's suspected of causing birth defects, of altering your immune system, and of adversely affecting your central nervous system, your reproductive system, your respiratory system, and your gastrointestinal tract, liver, and gallbladder.

And incidentally, propylene oxide has been banned in Canada, Mexico, and the European Union.

So why on earth would the Almond Board of California suggest that such a change be made in the first place? Simple: to save face. In the last five years, there have been two outbreaks in some of their biggest almond operations in California. That can't be too good for business. But this new gig they've got going on won't be good for business either.

Eighty percent of the almonds grown worldwide are grown in the States, which means that a good chunk of change comes from exportation. The problem: Pasteurized almonds are not permitted in many overseas countries. Domestic sales are bound to take a nosedive as well, as companies are now turning to overseas sources to get raw almonds that are REALLY raw.

But perhaps the biggest hit will be taken by the smaller almond operations. Truth be told, even though all of the problems originated with the biggest almond industries, this little piece of legislation could spell the end of the line for organic and small-time almond operations. The minimum cost of the pasteurization equipment is $500,000 — a hefty price that not many smaller businesses can afford. Shipping the almonds off to be pasteurized has its own road bumps, not the least of which includes higher prices tied up in transportation costs.

This is an awful lot of fuss, especially considering the fact that nuts are not likely to pose a threat in and of themselves. It's when manure or other fecal matter gets transferred to the crops that contamination can occur. A better solution is one that would regulate the manmade carelessness that's the source of all these problem to begin with. But with today's Band-aid mentality, the likelihood of that happening is almost nil.

Nutty for the truth,
need some raw advice

when i first transitioned to raw, i did it cold turkey, and lasted at 100% raw for four to five months. i did experience cravings, and cleansing symptoms, but celebrated them joyfully. after the four or five month period i suddenly went back to cooked, full force and on a binge! eating out with friends for almost every meal, disregarding everything ive learned about nutrition, proper digestion, and healthy habits, and filling my body with more toxic foods that make me ill.

so then i went back to raw, lasted about another month, back on a high, losing the weight i'd gained back during the crazy addicted food binge, and looking and feeling the best of my life. but i just cant stick with it! ill be on for a week and then off for two, always saying the next day i'll go raw, blowing a couple hundred dollars to stock up for "raw recipes" and then continuing to eat crap cooked foods! the cravings are just too intense! i dont really see why now its so hard when in the beginning i was able to go cold turkey and last for months. any input on why that could be?

is it possibly that im deficient in some nutrient or lacking some important staple of my diet? any input on this is very welcomed. how to conquer these cravings? does anyone have any amaaaazing raw recipes that are so good that i'll never crave cooked again?? (hehehe, *fingers crossed*)

i am constantly reading raw books or testimonies for inspiration, looking at before and after photos for motivation. if anyone has any other great stories to share, please do. motivate me, inspire me with your own healing stories. or id appreciate some really good recipes. or book reccommendations perhaps? or maybe some scary fact about cooked food that will make me stay away from it forever? anyway.... thanks for listening and especially for any feedback....the raw journey has been so healing for me and i pray that i can motivate myself to continue this path forever.

oh - PS - recommendations for protein foods? or a really high protein smoothie recipe? i find myself craving high protein foods, and i feel this is one thing lacking from my raw diet. thanks for any advice!

Sprouting and Steaming Beans

Lately I've been experimenting with sprouting beans like chickpeas and soy beans and then lightly steaming them to make them easier to digest. The raw sprouts tend to be difficult for even the strongest digestive system to handle well but just fine when steamed.
But is this any better than just cooking the beans?
I read that David Wolfe doesn't recommend beans as a food at all, but can be yummy. Lentil sprouts are good too.

Any thoughts about this?

I like the online journals at:

http://www.shazzie.com/raw/journal/

and

http://www.alissacohen.com/process.html

Those really help keep me motivated. If you have the time to read Shazzie's entire journal- it is really inspiring. And the pictures on alissacohen's site (before and afters) are great.

Do you guys have websites you like to go to for raw motivation and information?

dehydrated?

if you all are on the boards over at www.rawfoodsupport.com then you already know what's going on with me now, but i'm curious... is anyone else finding themselves less and less attracted to dehydrated foods? repulsed even? almost like they're non-foods?

i discovered my non-appreciation for dehydrated foods this week while on a date, where i tried to make myself eat some flax crackers. it was like this thing going off in my head, telling me "do you know what it's gonna take for us to break that dry assed cracker down?" then again, that could've been an expression of my need for more water, but still... the cracker wasn't live, so it didn't look like food to me. i think i'm about to be one of those mono-dieters - if that means making a meal of one food item at a time. colorful salads even look grotesque to me. well, that's extreme, but they don't look appetizing.

anyone else like this?

A few questions from the newbie???

Hey all,
So, I've been a vegan for two years and a 'raw' vegan for just under a week. I'm having massive detox effects (cause I just cut out bread and stuff altogether... it's amazing how 'bad' a person can eat and still technically be 'vegan') but I'm find that on day five, I've completely lost my drive to eat food, even when I'm hungry. Well... I guess I'll just get to my questions rather than relay my entire life story.

1) Is tofu raw?
2) Is it possible to have 'tea' just from warm (rather than boiling) water and consider it still raw?
3) Is yogurt raw?
4) Is it possible to eat raw root vegetables (like potatoes, really)?
5) Is it possible to escape the green smoothie addiction? (Okay, just kidding about that one. But seriously... I just ate an entire bag of spinach this morning... that's not normal!)
6) Summer's coming to an end... what are some good fall vegetables (that are not squash since that stuff's disgusting!!!)
7) Can a person eat grains (like amaranth or millet) 'raw'? If so, how do you do that?

Okay, I think that's it for now. I really did look through and try to find the answers to these in previous posts, but I'm just as lost as before. ::innocent face:: Thanks for your help.

Hi, I'm a five year raw vegan veteran. I just joined this tribe not too long ago... to see what's the latest in raw food buzz. For a long time, I've been wanting to document some of my "creations". I'm single, eat at home, and never get to share that "Oh my God, you've got to try this" meal. Additionally, I'm also trying to photograph my recipes too. Maybe I'll post some tips on how to photograph your raw food.

I sometimes have dinner with my raw buddy Lily on Sundays. Lily is always so proud of our creations and she loves to grab her point-n-shoot camera and snap some shots of the food.... but the results are always, well, awful. She didn't know why, so I helped her. The blogs I just posted are the result of our last Sunday raw meal.

Just wanted to let you guys know that it's there :-)

Cheers! -Jeremy

an ode to green smoothies

GREEN FOR LIFE... by VICTORIA BOUTENKO
Green smoothies, a breakthrough in human nutrition.

Green smoothies taste good.
Green smoothies are easy to make and easy to digest.
Green smoothies provide all the vitamins, minerals and protein the body needs.

GREEN FOR LIFE
by
Victoria Boutenko

Synopsis of, Green for Life:

My husband, our two youngest children, and I have
been eating an only raw foods diet since January of
1994, more than eleven years. We went on this radical diet
out of complete despair when our medical doctors didn't
leave us any chances to recover from our horrible illnesses.

By turning off the pilot in our stove and discontinuing all cooking,
we were able to heal all of our incurable, life-threatening diseases.

After several years of being raw foodists, however, each one
of us began to feel like we had reached a plateau where our
healing process stopped and even somewhat began to go backwards.

A burning question began to grow stronger in my heart with each day.
"Is there anything missing in our diet?" The answer would come right
away: "Nope. Nothing could be better than a raw food diet."

Yet, however tiny, the unwanted signs of less than perfect
health kept surfacing in minor but noticeable symptoms
such as a wart on a hand or a gray hair that brought doubts
and questions about the completeness of the raw food diet
in its present form.

In my eager quest,I started collecting data about every
single food that existed for humans. After many wrong
guesses, I finally found the correct answer. I found one
particular food group that matched ALL human nutritional
needs: GREENS.

The truth is, in my family, we were not eating enough greens.
Moreover, we did not like them. We knew that greens were
important, but we never heard anywhere exactly how much
greens we needed in our diet.

We had only a vague recommendation to eat as much as possible.
In order to find out how much greens we needed to eat, I
decided to study the eating habits of chimpanzees since they
are one of the closest creatures to human beings.

"Modern people and chimpanzees share an estimated
99.4% of our DNA sequence, making us more closely
related to each other than either is to any other animal
species."

Despite all the scientific research, human health is
continuously declining. Many nutritionists connect
human health problems with nutritional deficiencies.

Understanding chimpanzees' eating habits may help us
better understand human dietary needs.

The two major food groups for chimpanzees are fruits and greens.
Please do not confuse greens with root vegetables like carrots,
beets, or potatoes. Also do not confuse greens with non-sweet
fruits like cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, and bell peppers.

According to Jane Goodall, a world famous researcher of chimpanzees,
the percentage of time that chimpanzees spend eating greens in
relation to the rest of their diet varies from 25-50% depending
on the season.

Two to seven percent of their diet is pith and bark.
(Piths are the stems and more fibrous parts of plants.)
When the trees are blooming, in March and April, chimpanzees
consume blossoms, up to 10% of their [diet] ratio.

Chimpanzees do not eat very many nuts, but their diet could
be up to 5% seeds. Also, particularly in November, they
consume small amounts of insects and even small animals,
however, Goodall says this part of their diet is irregular
and insignificant, as they could go months and months without
consuming any animals, and seem to have no ill effects.

Let us compare the standard American diet with that of
chimpanzees. They look totally different. These
two diets hardly have anything in common! We humans eat
mostly things that chimpanzees don't eat at all, like cooked
starchy foods, oils, butter, yogurt, cheese, hamburgers, etc.

While most of our vegetables are roots, wild chimpanzees
almost never eat root vegetables unless there is a drought
and fruits and greens are unavailable. It is the intake of
greens that has declined most dramatically in the human diet.
Our consumption of greens has generally shrunk to the two
wilted iceberg lettuce leaves on our sandwich.

Let us compare the standard American diet with an average
diet of a typical raw foodist. I think that a raw food diet
demonstrates a vast improvement over the regular diet.

Firstly, all ingredients in a raw diet are uncooked, and full
of enzymes and vitamins; thus the raw food diet is like a
revolution in comparison with the standard American diet.
That explains why so many people reported that they instantly
felt better on a raw diet.

Raw fooders eat a lot of fruit, especially if we keep in mind
that bell-peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, and tomatoes are also
fruits. However, even though raw-foodists typically consume
noticeably more greens than people on an average mainstream diet,
greens almost never constitute 45 percent of their food. [As in the
typical chimpanzee diet.]

So what do raw foodists eat in place of their
missing greens? The answer is: most people on a raw food
diet consume large amounts of fruits, nuts and seeds. Often
they use nuts as a substitute for carbohydrates, particularly
when trying to mimic cooked dishes with raw ingredients,
even though nuts are 70-80% fat.

Also, raw foodists increase their consumption of oils and
avocados because the most common way of eating salads, their
main staple, is to have it mixed with dressing, sauce or guacamole.
Another big quota in a typical raw diet belongs to root vegetables
mostly due to juicing. Also, roots taste sweeter than greens and
thus comprise a large portion of raw salads.

Considering all of these factors, when we compare the
typical raw food diet with the chimpanzee diet, we can clearly
see that there are two main ways to further improve our
individual eating patterns: to increase our consumption of
greens, and to reduce our intake of nuts, seeds, and oils.

Another striking characteristic aspect of the chimpanzee
eating pattern is that they never eat in the late afternoon or
evening.

The more I read about the nutritional content of greens,
the more I became convinced that greens were the most
important food for humans. If I could only find a way to
enjoy them enough to consume the optimal quantity needed
to become perfectly healthy!

I tried countless times to force myself to eat large amounts
of greens in the form of salad or by themselves, only to
discover that I was not physically able to do that. After about
two cups of shredded greens I would either have heartburn
or nausea.

Greens possess more valuable nutrients than any other food group,
but all these nutrients are stored inside the cells of plants.
To release all the valuable nutrients from within the the cells,
the cell walls need to be ruptured.

This is why I decided to try to"chew" my greens in the Vitamix
Blender. First I blended a bunch of kale with water. I was
thinking, "I will just close my eyes and nose and drink it."

But as soon as I opened the lid, I closed it again
quickly because I felt queasy from the strong, wheat grass
smell. That dark green, almost black mixture was totally
unconsumable. After some brainstorming, I added several
bananas and blended it again. And that was when the magic
began!

I slowly, and with some trepidation, removed the lid
and sniffed the air, and to my greatest surprise this bright
green concoction smelled very pleasant. I cautiously tasted a
sip and was exhilarated! It was better than tasty! Not too
sweet, not too bitter, it was the most unusual taste I had ever
tried, and I could describe it in one word: freshness.

When I first started drinking green smoothies, I didn't mention
it to anybody and did not expect anything significant to happen.
Since I did not have any big health problems, I was not pursuing
any dramatic changes. I just didn't want to age so noticeably.

However, after about a month of erratic green smoothie drinking,
two moles and a wart I had since early childhood peeled off my
body. I felt more energized than ever before, and started sharing
my experience with my family and friends.

The next thing I noticed was that those cravings I had occasionally
for heavy foods like nuts or crackers, especially in the evenings, had
totally disappeared.

I noticed that many of the wrinkles on my face went away and
I began to hear compliments from other people about my fresh look.
My nails became stronger, my vision sharpened and I had a wonderful
taste in my mouth, even upon waking in the morning (pleasure I hadn't
had since youth).

My dream had come true at last! I was consuming plenty
of greens every day. I began to feel lighter and my energy
increased. My tastes started to change. I discovered that my
body was so starved for greens that for several weeks, I lived
almost entirely on green smoothies.

Plain fruits and vegetables became much more desirable for me
and my cravings for fatty foods declined dramatically. When I
began to drink green smoothies, I noticed right away that those
kinds of cravings disappeared.

I purchased an additional Vitamix blender for my office.
Whenever friends or customers came in, they saw a big
green cup next to my computer and I treated them to a sample
of my new discovery. To my great satisfaction, everybody
loved it, despite their different dietary habits.

Inspired by the warm reception, I wrote an article "Ode to
Green Smoothie" and emailed it to all those in my Internet
address book. Almost instantly I began to receive strong,
positive feedback and many detailed testimonials from my
friends, students, and customers.

While I felt compelled to do more research, it looked like the
multiple benefits of green smoothie became obvious to everybody
who tried them, and the number of people who were drinking green
smoothie turned into a "green wave," growing rapidly every day.

[This above excerpt is just a sample of the revolutionary information in,
Green for Life.]

Victoria Boutenko teaches classes on raw food at South Oregon University
and, as a result of her teachings, many raw food communities have been formed throughout the world. Victoria and her family have lived on a 100% raw food diet since 1994 and all four have cured their incurable diseases. The transformation of Victoria's family to raw food is described in her book, Raw Family. Victoria is also the author of 12 Steps to Raw Foods. Her two children have written a book containing delicious raw food recipes called Eating without Heating.
by
Victoria Boutenko

www.rawfamily.com

As the Russian proverb says: New... is something old, that has been long
forgotten. Last summer I re-discovered green smoothies. What do I mean by green smoothie? Here is one of my favorite recipes: 4 ripe pears, 1 bunch of parsley and 4 cups of water. Blended well.

This smoothie looks very green, but it tastes like fruit. I like green smoothies
so much that I bought an extra blender and placed it in my office, so that 1
could make green smoothies throughout the day. More than half of all the food I've had in last several months have been green smoothies.

I have so much more energy and clarity that I have removed green juices from my diet. (Juicing has been something that I've been doing regularly for years.) Green smoothies have numerous benefits for human health.

1. Green smoothies are very nutritious. I believe that the ratio in them is optimal for human consumption: at about 60%... ripe organic fruit mixed with about 40%... organic green vegetables.

2. Green smoothies are easy to digest. When blended well, all the valuable nutrients in these fruits and veggies become homogenized, or divided into
such small particles that it becomes easy for the body to assimilate these
nutrients, the green smoothies literally start to get absorbed in your mouth.

3. Green smoothies, as apposed to juices, are a complete food because they still have fiber.

4. Green smoothies belong to the most palatable dishes for all humans of all
ages. With a ratio of fruits to veggies as 60:40, the fruit taste dominates the
flavor, yet at the same time the green vegetables balance out the sweetness
of the fruit, adding nice zest to it. Green smoothies are simply the best tasting
dishes for the majority of adults and children.

I always make extra smoothie and offer it to my friends and customers. Some
of them eat a standard American diet. They all finished their big cup of green smoothies with complements. They were quite surprised that something so
green could taste so nice and sweet.

5. By consuming two or three cups of green smoothies daily you will consume
enough of greens for the day to nourish your body, and they will be well
assimilated. Many people do not consume enough of greens, even those
who stay on a raw food diet. The molecule of chlorophyll has only one atom
that makes it different from a molecule of human blood. According to
teachings of Dr. Ann Wigmore, to consume chlorophyll is like receiving a
healthy blood transfusion.

6. Green smoothies are easy to make, and quick to clean up after. Many people told me that they do not consume green juices on a regular basis because it is time consuming to prepare green juices and clean the equipment after juicing, or to drive to the juice bar.

7. Green smoothies are perfect food for children of all ages, including babies
of six or more months old when introducing new food to them after mother's
milk. Of course you have to be careful and slowly increase the amount off
smoothies to avoid food allergies.

8. When you consume your greens in the form of green smoothies, you can
greatly reduce the consumption of oils and salt in your diet.

9. Regular consumption of Green smoothies forms a good habit of eating
greens. Several people told me that after a couple of weeks of drinking green
smoothies, they started to crave and enjoy eating more greens. Eating
enough of green vegetable is often a problem with many people, especially in
children.

10. Green smoothies can easily be freshly made at any juice bar, restaurant or
health food store for the great convenience of health-oriented customers.

I encourage the readers of this article to start playing with green smoothies,
and to discover the many joys and benefits of this wonderful delicious and
nutritious addition to the menu.

Here are more ideas for your green creations.

Some of my favorite greens to add to green smoothies: parsley, spinach,,
celery, kale and romaine. My favorite fruits for green smoothies are: pears,
peaches, nectarines, bananas, mangoes and apples. Strawberries and
raspberries taste superb in green smoothies, when combined with ripe bananas.
Let's pick a new moderator

Ok, maybe it's not my place to jump in here because I'm so new to this tribe, but I've started to think maybe the reason a new moderator hasn't been picked by the tribe members is because no one wants to read a 100+ long thread.
If anyone feels up to moderating the tribe, please post below. Let's say that everything that needs to be said about why a person should or shouldn't moderate has been said already (many times) in the other thread, and that the thread below will be largely for volunteers and then people voting in support.
I think maybe we should keep in mind that this tribe is supposed to be: 'a place for the sharing of information pertaining to the raw & living foods lifestyle', and under that pretense people joined the tribe, it shouldn't be the job of the moderator to change the tribe, just to keep out trolls and hostile negativity. Of course, those of you who have been here longer and know what you're talking about can disagree with me (and if you do please feel free to!)
respectfully,
Cali

oh my god!!

I just used my brand new vitamix 748 after using a vintage 3600 for years and i am blown away...

Victoria Boutanko convinced me i needed to upgrade, that the old ones just don't puree the greens enough in my green smoothies and that is what was giving me bloating. and so I went ahead and upgraded
wow! it is REALLY worth it. I had so much fun today making really cool little treats
(like icecream out of cashews gojis, cacao beans maca and ice)
And my green smoothie was so much finer and pureed!! ( and no bloating, Victoria was right!!)
its like the coolest new toy
like christmas....
i just am so excited i had to share!!

Bow down before your new master...Just kidding. Im more like the janitor here to clean up other peoples mess. Hopefully your not too much of a neat freak because our policies are lax. There are limits though and I will encourage you to treat each other with respect and if you encounter disagreement then attack arguments not individuals. "Your mother" is never a relevant form of debate.

Feel free to give me suggestions or initiate polls. Also, by all means talk back to me if there is something you disagree with. This is your community as much as it is mine.

I bought a head of broccoli yesterday and made a promise to myself I'd actually eat it and not let it go bad. I work at a pub, so I'm constantly surrounded by people filling themselves with deep fried meat ("Yes, instead of mushrooms, can you substitute bacon?" one customer asked me. I wanted to ask him if he'd rather I just inject the fat directly to his veins)
Anyway, after work I came home late and was starving. I cut up some broccoli, a little sweet red pepper, avocado, almonds, and sweet snow peas and added a little salad dressing. Viola, a wonderful raw meal to delight the senses. Enjoy!

unexpected Raw Vegan bonus perk

So one thing I didn't expect when I went raw was the huge reduction in my gas bill for my stove! I thought for sure the electrical bill would even it out because of dehydrating, which it turns out I do less of than I thought I would initially. Which means that as I am not buying food when out that is cooked, there is a small impact there as well.

Then there was the weird freedom of going to the produce section and looking at it all as 'quick take away food'.

This brings my simply question: The less tangible benefits of going raw. Anyone else find crazy little excitements like this in their diet/lifestyle choice?

addicted to cooked grains ~ help!

I'm looking for practical advice. Personal tips, good books, educational links, and any & all support will be much appreciated.

I crave grains constantly. I figure my body is after the protien or the carbs or both. The only way I currently know how to prepare them is to cook them, but then I must not be getting what I need from the grains by cooking them or else the cravings would stop after I eat them and yet I find myself craving them again within hours. So I'm beginning to see what Leslie means about how cooked food can be addictive.

A dear friend of mine made a profoundly simple suggestion to me the other day & I could feel the difference immediately. She said instead of cooking my oatmeal in the morning, soak it overnight instead. I tried it & I felt lighter, less sluggish & more energetic than usual all morning AND I was not craving grains at lunch time!

So I am looking for more life-altering, but hopefully relatively simple changes like that. Does this soaking thing work for other grains? Which ones? I have had a little experience w/ sprouting alfalfa seeds & mung beans in a jar, but that's about it. I am wide open for more sprouting suggestions too.

Many thanks!
JL

Top 3 Foods According to Hippocrates Institute Director

Ezekiel and I went to Erewhon two days ago where Dr. Brian Clement from the Hippocrates Institute gave an inspiring talk. The Hippocrates Institute (founded by Dr. Ann Wigmore) has cured thousands of seriously diseased people through their raw vegan healing program.

Dr. Clement exclaimed that the top 3 foods are:

1) Algae from Klamath Lake
2) Sea Vegetables
3) Sprouts/ Grasses

He spoke at length about how we've transferred all of our cooked food addictions to our raw food diet, especially when it comes to fats and sugars, condensed foods etc. This is a logical progression and transition. But what is the next stage? Do we really get all the energy we have from the foods we eat?

I have been facing this lately as well. I recently finished a 21-day water and juice fast and during the fast was faced with all of my food addictions. The question that kept coming up was: why do I eat? The answer was: I eat when I'm hungry, I eat when I'm not hungry, I eat when I'm happy, I eat when I'm sad, I eat when I'm excited, I eat when I'm bored, I eat when I feel something, I eat when I feel nothing. Basically, we eat as a habit, an emotional response to anything. We eat far beyond the nutritional needs of the body.

I've been 95% raw for almost six months now, and I am starting to get the feeling that the next level up, since I am definitely interested in spiritual purification, is to purify my diet using the above top 3 foods, to eat less, eat slower and more consciously, and fast more often.

I know this type of raw diet is not for everyone, but am interested to know if there's anyone else in the same boat?

Ever vibrating higher and higher... Namasté!

Just wanting to open a discussion on the irradiation of food. Most of the food we buy in the supermarkets, especially when it comes from other countries is exposed to radiation that alters the food on a molecular level and makes it close to sterile. In some instances it may prevent disease, but it also may affect nutritional quality. It can be difficult to avoid irradiated food if you buy your food from super markets. Farmers markets are a good place t find non irradiated foods. Almost all fruits and vegetables in the super markets are irradiated.
Abstract

To elucidate the effect of gamma-irradiation on the molecular properties of ovalbumin and ovomucoid, the secondary and tertiary structure and molecular weights of the proteins were examined after irradiation at various doses. Gamma-irradiation of protein solutions caused the disruption of the ordered structure of protein molecules. Circular dichroism showed that increase of radiation decreased the ordered structure of proteins. Fluorescence spectroscopy indicated that irradiation quenched the emission intensity excited at 280 nm. SDS-PAGE indicated that radiation caused initial fragmentation of polypeptide chains and, as a result, subsequent aggregation. Ascorbic acid protected against the aggregation and degradation of proteins by scavenging oxygen radicals produced by irradiation and the effect of irradiation on protein conformation was more significant at lower concentrations of proteins.

do you consider humans as Herbivore?

An herbivore is an animal that is adapted to eat primarily plant matter (rather than meat)

An omnivore (from Latin: omne all, everything; vorare to devour) is a species of animal that eats both plants and animals as its primary food source.

Accoring to John McArdle, Ph.D: Humans are omnivores.

reference: Adapted from a talk by John McArdle, Ph.D.. Humans are Omnivores. Vegetarian Resource Group. Retrieved on 2007-12-29.

what do you think?

Do you think humans should eat like Herbivores?

I myself have been considering starting a tribe for raw vegans who have the spirit of total rawness, even if they aren't able to manage to eat 100% raw more than parttime. To my way of thinking, cooked foods are very much similar in effect to smoking............. we really don't need to debate over the merits of smoking vs not smoking.... even though our medical doctors and scientists used to tell us that smoking was good for us (yes they did back in the early to mid 20th century). Trying to quit among those who have no intention of quitting, despite the fact that they appreciate the merits of fresh air (and raw vegan foods) .... many of whom will argue endlessly against All common sense...... is not an agreeable psycho-social circumstance to be in.
So, here's the Raw Vegan Spirit tribe:

Alright…I can't believe I've never been to this place before, but on Commercial Drive in Vancouver there is a vegan cafe called Truffles Cafe, and half their stuff is raw, and absolutely delicious. I had Pad Thai, made from a coconut sauce on spiral cut yam, with a little pepper, broccoli, and red pepper. It was probably the most delicious meal I've had in a really long time (and pretty!). After eating the meal, I decided I wanted to learn more about being raw, so here I am, and I wanted to tell anyone in the Vancouver area about this fabulous cafe. (1025 Commercial Drive)

Improper "Big Pharma" Influence in Medicine is VERIFIED!

Improper "Big Pharma" Influence in Medicine is VERIFIED!

This is a BIG step in the right direction for health care in the USA! It has been no secret, but no one was talking about it since the monetary benefits that many doctors are receiving from these companies made this unlikely. I mean - if you were the type to only care about money (which is why many become doctors in the first place), wouldn't you want a free trip to Cancun by putting other people on basically unproven and even harmful chemical substances?

Catherine D. De Angelis, MD, MPH and Phil B. Fontanarosa, MD, MBA have submitted this timely (and likely unwelcome) article into the April 16, 2008 edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), entitled "Impugning the Integrity of Medical Science - the Adverse Effects of Industry Influence."

What is even more awesome is that this was broadcast on the same day on the morning edition of Talk Radio's "Paul Harvey" show, so this information has come to the attention of many Americans today!

I am happy to see that some doctors do in fact have some integrity. This may also be an opening for safer alternative methods to be approved by the AMA for doctors to use and not feel like they will have their medical licensing taken away if they recommend a proven herbal remedy (as an example) instead of the new designer drugs of the day. I hope this allows them the courage to step forward now that the door has been opened!

We can help by showing this to our medical providers (if you have those) this article, and telling them about this, they can maybe take additional steps as doctors to become more able to practice alternative and natural techniques without risking their careers. Also, tell your friends in any way you can, so that they can demand alternative therapies be implemented or they will go elsewhere now that this article ought to free up other practitioners to use these methods. This also provides some validation for Alternative practitioners who have known about these dangers all along. Health care freedom (and responsibility) is up to all of us - please spread the message!

Raw vs living

How much of your daily diet is composed of still living foods? In my opinion, foods that are dry or "uncooked" still lack the vitality of sprouted living foods. The drink Kombucha made from cultured tea is loaded with vitality and living organisms that are beneficial to health, even though it was cultured in tea and sugar. Many uncooked foods, even laura bars which are uncooked are not "living" the way fresh sprouts or freshly picked fruits and veggies are. Dry nuts can be raw but they can produce the same lethargy that cooked grains can produce if they are not soaked in water to activate their life force.

Admittedly, my diet is not 100% living, but I think its an additional element that we should become conscious off.

White blood cell count and Leukocytosis

I think this topic deserves its own thread. I recently read a lot about the studies that have been conducted on this. Here is one article that explains what happens to the white blood cell count after eating cooked food:

http://www.living-foods.com/articles/rawfreshproduce.html
and that article is VERY long and has a LOT of raw food info so i am pasting the part of the article that specifically discusses Leukocytosis:

Pinpointing the Pathogenic Nature of Cooked Foods: Leukocytosis

An increase in white corpuscles in the bloodstream is indicative of pathology. White corpuscles are the body's first line of defense against toxic or harmful substances. The typical white corpuscle count is about 6,000 per cubic millimeter. When this count doubles, triples or increases four or five fold it is evidence of a diseased condition even if outward appearance does not reflect it.

Dr. Kouchakoff of Switzerland conducted over 300 detailed experiments, which pinpointed the pathogenic nature of cooked and processed foods. Food heated to temperatures of just 120 to 190 degrees F (a range usually relegated to warming rather than cooking which, nevertheless destroys all enzymes), causes leukocytosis. Leukocytosis is a term applied to an abnormally high white corpuscle count.

On Raw Food, Leukocytosis Does Not Occur

Within a short time after eating food cooked at these low temperatures, white corpuscle counts tripled in the participants of Dr. Kouchakoff experiments. When raw foods were added to the meal, foods cooked in this low temperature range did not cause leukocytosis. At cooked temperatures higher than 190 degrees, no amount of raw food offset the pathological effects of heating, and leukocytosis always occurred.

There is no proliferation of white corpuscles when uncooked, raw fresh produce food is eaten. On the contrary, the constant daily fight against the toxic effects of cooked food eventually exhausts the immune system, causing age-related illness and premature death.

White Blood Cells and the Immune System

A spontaneous multiplication of white corpuscles takes place in normal blood immediately after the introduction of any virulent infection or poison since white corpuscles are the fighting organisms of the blood. The human body contains hundreds of defensive mechanisms including leukocytes, lymphocytes, plasma cells, monocytes, basophils, neutrophils, eosinophils, and granulocytes to clear the circulation of toxic materials. These serve to protect and continuously purify the body against the ravages of poisons.

White blood cells patrol your circulatory system and defend against alien potentially harmful substances that have been absorbed or injected into the body. White cells are sanitation engineers maintaining the purity of tissues, lymph, and body fluids. If poisons, bacteria, fungi (yeast), metabolic wastes, cooked food debris, or other foreign substances enter the blood, they are engulfed by white blood cells. White cells tolerate nothing abnormal in the circulatory system. Some of what is apprehended is recycled as food, especially organic materials. High concentrations however, overwhelm your immune system.

When pharmaceutical or recreational drugs, medicinal herbs, nutritional supplements, inorganic nutrients and cooked foods are consumed, leukocytosis occurs. An abnormal proliferation of leukocytes are released into your bloodstream from lymph glands and bone marrow where they are normally held in reserve until needed, to apprehend harmful alien substances before they disrupt and chemically unite with a significant number of cells and tissues.

In the process, white cells go on a suicide mission sacrificing themselves while protecting the greater good of the organism. In the aftermath of eating cooked food or taking drugs, the white cell count rises to between 12,000-20,000 per cubic millimeter of blood. After clearing the bloodstream of toxic debris your white cell count decreases back to normal, about 4,300-7,000 per cubic millimeter of blood.

Healthfully Normal White Blood Cell Counts vs. Ordinary WBC Counts in the Typically Toxic

Although ordinary, this pathological average WBC count of 4,300-7,000 is exceedingly high and is based on the general populace who routinely consume junk food, cooked foods, condiments, soft drinks, teas, coffee, tobacco, and fermented foods: all of which cause abnormal proliferation of white cells. This phenomenon repeated each meal, each day, each week, each year for decades slowly lowers resistance to disease and hideously drains your auto-immune defensive response.

On the contrary, those who consume a clean-burning diet of predominantly raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds have white cell counts well below 4,300: and are mistakenly regarded as immunodeficient! The truth is: those who are REALLY suffering immunodeficiency diseases (as in AIDS) have destroyed their capacity to generate white blood cells, from constantly ingesting drugs or massive transfusions.

The healthy body is parsimonious, harvesting its resources strictly according to need. Your system is very economical in that it does not maintain faculties beyond what it requires. Healthy individuals whose blood streams are pure have lower white cell counts in circulation. The remainder is held in reserve within bone marrow, capillaries, and lymph nodes for times of emergency.
....................................................................................................................................................................................................................

and just for balance, here is an article to the contrary:
http://www.beyondveg.com/tu-j-l/raw-cooked/raw-cooked-1i.shtml
(which i have not read through yet, but at first glance it appears to be written by someone who must be very attached to that veggie-burger)

just wondering if any of you have had success with Gabriel Cousen's Rainbow Green diet. . .
one thing i don't quite understand is how to get enough calories when you're eating minimal to no sweet fruit and "only as much fat as one avocado per day," which i was advised by a graduate of Gabriel's Spiritual Nutrition program. A sample daily menu that meets daily calorie requirements (I'm guessing at the very least 1500 calories per day?) would be helpful.
Thank you!

I heard from a friend today that raw spinach os bad to eat because it leeches iron from your blood like it does to the soil. She suggested at least blanching it with warm water. Has anyone else heard this?

almond pasturization ruling reversed?

Originally published October 22 2007
Consumer groups join forces to reverse pasteurization ruling for raw almonds
by Mike Adams

(NewsTarget) The U.S. government is once again working closely with powerful corporations to knowingly deliver a nutritionally deficient food supply to the American people. This most recent example concerns the new rules by the Almond Board of California (ABC) and backed by the USDA to mandate the pasteurization of all commercially-grown almonds in California with substances that include highly toxic propylene oxide (PPO). As reported by the Health Freedom Foundation, propylene oxide is so toxic that it was "...banned by both the National Hot Rod and American Motorcycle Racing Associations, where it had been used as a fuel before being deemed too dangerous."

NewsTarget has reported on this story for several months, urging consumers to help stop the ruling from going into place, but corporations won the initial round. Since September 1st, all the almonds commercially grown in California have been pasteurized or sanitized through either heat treatments or toxic chemical treatments.

Both the Organic Consumers Association (www.OrganicConsumers.org) and the Cornucopia Institute (www.Cornucopia.org) have strongly opposed this almond pasteurization requirement. Today, the Health Freedom Foundation (www.HealthFreedom.net) announced a grassroots consumer action campaign to petition the USDA to suspend these almond pasteurization rules for 180 days. NewsTarget supports this petition and urges all American consumers to support this 180-day suspension of the killing of California almonds by clicking HERE to send an online message to your legislative representatives in Washington.

NewsTarget has published a CounterThink cartoon on this subject called The Killing of California Almonds. Feel free to share the cartoon or post it on your website (along with a link back to NewsTarget).

Today NewsTarget has also posted an exclusive video interview on the subject of almond pasteurization fraud. In the video, we interview Seth Leaf, co-founder of LivingNutz (www.LivingNutz.com), a small manufacturer of hand-made raw, sprouted nut products that has been caught up in the chaos of this bewildering decision by the Almond Board of California. Click here to view this video interview on YouTube.

Read NewsTarget's previous article coverage of this topic in the following stories:

Food Scam: Almond Board of California to falsely label pasteurized almonds as "raw"
http://www.newstarget.com/021776.html

Cornucopia Institute reveals agribusiness conspiracy to mislead consumers over almonds
http://www.newstarget.com/021783.html

Almond Board of California changes its story following NewsTarget article
http://www.newstarget.com/021781.html

Fraudulent marketing, illegal labeling
The Almond Board of California is right now conspiring with the USDA to allow the fraudulent labeling of almonds that are being sold to consumers. How? Pasteurized, fumigated or cooked almonds will be openly labeled as "raw" almonds. As you can see from previous stories published by NewsTarget on this issue, the Almond Board of California recognizes no substantial difference between cooked and raw almonds, and thus does not see any need to distinguish between them on product packaging.

I believe this position is an example of outright consumer marketing fraud designed to misinform consumers and protect the sales of pasteurized almonds by intentionally mislabeling them as "raw." No reasonable person would dare say that cooked eggs are the same as raw eggs, or that cooked lettuce is the same as raw, fresh lettuce, but somehow the Almond Board of California continues to pretend that cooked almonds are virtually identical to raw almonds. The advocating of this position is, in my opinion, a violation of truth in labeling laws and nothing short of a corporate-masterminded conspiracy to intentionally hoodwink consumers by selling them an inferior (cooked) product that is knowingly mislabeled.

Raw almonds, for the record, are vastly superior to cooked almonds in terms of nutrition. They contain more anti-cancer phytonutrients, more usable protein and healthier fats. Once these elements are exposed to high temperatures (through pasteurization or other methods), these nutritional qualities are irreversibly degraded, rendering the almond deficient in the nutrients it had when it was first harvested. This degradation of health-enhancing nutrients has the result of contributing to nutritional deficiencies and imbalances in North American consumers -- people who are already in a state of chronic nutritional deficiency due to the consumption of other processed foods.

It also sets a precedent for the intentional mislabeling of food products being purchased by North American consumers. The FDA is already on record stating that irradiated foods should not be truthfully labeled as such since the label might "confuse" and "misinform" consumers (who are apparently too stupid to understand what irradiation really means, the FDA believes). Now, with the USDA backing this fraudulent labeling decision by the Almond Board of California, we have two dominant government agencies (the FDA and USDA) who are both in favor of the blatant mislabeling of food products in order to keep consumers ignorant of how their foods are really being processed and degraded.

Two issues need to be reversed
There are really two important issues here that need to be reversed in order for the almond industry to regain any real credibility with consumers:

1) The ruling requiring the mandatory pasteurization or fumigation of all almonds needs to be rescinded. Raw almonds represent no legitimate health risk whatsoever to consumers. (There's far more e.coli in meat products, and you don't see the U.S. government banning raw meat, do you?)

2) The labeling of pasteurized almonds as "raw" needs to be stopped. This is fraudulent, misleading labeling and it has the effect of causing consumers to realize they cannot trust ANY almonds, regardless of what the package says. After all, if pasteurized is labeled as "raw" then what does "organic" mean on the package? What does anything mean? The words on the package apparently have no meaning at all; at least not one that regular people would understand and agree to. This will ultimately lead to devastating financial losses among U.S. almond growers. In my interview with Seth Leaf, for example, we learn that Seth's company, Living Nutz (www.LivingNutz.com), now has to purchase raw almonds from Spain!

The Almond Board of California has, in my opinion, lost its marbles. Can we interject some sanity into this issue and pressure the ABC and USDA to restore integrity to the U.S. almond industry? We'll know soon enough. In the mean time, you can play an important role in these three ways:

Action items
1) Contact your representatives in Washington and call, write or fax them a letter telling them strongly oppose this fraudulent action by the ABC and USDA.

2) Share the cartoon: The Killing of California Almonds.

3) Share the video interview: Seth Leaf speaks out about pasteurized "raw" almonds.

Thank you for your effort. Together, we have a legitimate shot at bringing the almond industry back to its senses and restoring truly raw almonds to the marketplace. And if this doesn't fly, NewsTarget will be announcing a global boycott of almonds grown in the United States (and asking you to join along...)
14 day Lifefood Nutritional and Liver Cleanse Blog

reposting my blog here so it can be of use to all us cleansers! if you respond here i may not answer, but if you message me personally on tribe as well, i'll get the message. thanks! cleansing like this will make you even more of a sexy bitch! or maybe a sexy angel!

Aloha Friends and Family,

I am a Cleansing Superhero!

I am currently on day 10 of the Jubbs 14 day Lifefood Nutritional Fast. This is an intensive cleanse that I have done once before about 2 years ago full-length and one 5 day version last spring. This is a cellular rejuvenation cleanse focusing on the upstream. Upstream cleansing is above the diaphram (liver and gallbladder). It is important to get the liver and gallbladder, the main sewage plant cleared before trying to achieve a lasting colon cleanse. if you cleanse the colon first, it won't last because the toxified organs up the digestive stream just help to create more of the problem conditions in the colon.

The cleanse involves eating only Lifefood blended into soups, smoothies, drinks, and drinking some medicinal teas. Wearing castor oil packs on liver/gallbladder and ascending, transverse, and descending colon 2 times a day. Drinking apple cider vinegar 4 times a day. Eating powdered wildcrafted vital herbal formulas on slices of fruit (to activate them with parotid hormone in saliva for better digestion.) 3 days of liver/gallbladder flushing by drinking 4-6 oz of olive oil and 4 oz of lemon juice wtih coffee enema after.

I have been studying to become a certified Phoenix Fastician with Dr. David Jubb, PhD in new york and have been learning lots about this cleanse, the herbs, and how to read a person like a book in a health reading with cleanse and nutritional support. This is a True Healing Theraputic. There are many cleanses out there, but most miss the boat in some respect. Most don't look much to optimum nutrition during the cleanse and just offer suppliments to take. Most don't focus on the most important organ, the general, the most overworked and over toxified Liver. The Jubbs Cleanse takes care of all that. Because of the amazing nutrition, you are gently supported instead of stripped down like many cleanses like the Master Cleanse. If you're already in optimal health that might be ok, but most of us need the gentle support. It can be devistating to water fast or master cleanse to those with weakened immune systems.

So now that I've studied a bit with the Dr., it's amazing to see how much improvement is showing in my cleanse since last time. I feel like a rock star of cleansers! I've been able to be much more positive in my outlook, enjoying the cleanse much more. The hightened clarity i've received is such a gift. On the 5-day one i did last spring and definitly on this one, I am understanding my body's messages so quickly and clearly. The ones I'm getting big time are that my colon is sluggish and to never eat late at night. I ate late at night one night and paid for it with more outbreak of hives and feeling kind of groggy and slightly hungover. it all makes sense now. don't fill up your system with food and make it work while you're trying to rest at night! it's a total aggrivation to the system and makes symptoms worse!

I've also learned to fine-tune the cleanse with kundalini yoga, and sound healing with gong, tuning forks, & singing bowls. I'm also committing to percussion to the liver and gallbladder and massage of the gallbladder and colon. this was instrumental to a productive harvest of nasty little gall stones and some disgusting intestinal mucus. if you're brave and want to look at the pics, here's a link. www.flickr.com/photos/663...3715299990/

this cleanse has really offered me a chance to organize and discover the power of making all your own super nutrition food at home. with lifefood (raw food without hybrids like carrots, beets, bananas, corn, dates, legumes, grains) it's all about organization. i'm going to make cheat sheets to hang in the kitchen for things like timing of doses, reminders to soak nuts/seeds for milking, timing of cracker dehydration, etc. i'm so grateful to have found my new little hobbit healing temple. i have my own place wich means my own kitchen and bathroom. i have been wanting this for a while now so that i can do this cleansing and heal up old health issues. to my abounding health!

It's amazing how the body, mind, emotions, and spirit are linked! When I'm flushing out the stones and feeling kind of queezy all kind of crummy emotions come up. sometimes i will literally detox something out. last time i detoxed out the "wheel of fortune" theme song! it just looped over and over in my head till a shaman kitty came and massaged it out of my colon when i did the 5-day at Eden Hot Springs last summer. This time i have been working through feelings if incapability and insecurity as well as fear of death. also, on day 3, while feeling fiesty and superpowered, i received a call that brought an opportunity to test my spirituality, courage, and compassion. it all went well, i made a new friend, and helped to empower a sister going through a hard time! Jah works in gloriously mysterious ways always in perfect time!

all in all, the cleanse has been a wonderful boost to my energy, health, self-esteem, courage, discipline, willpower, flow and clarity of communication, inspiration, motivation, and intuition. I have realized that i am indeed making room for the light in my life by clearing out the toxins. all the emotions that are coming up represent the old me that clings (literally) to my insides making me sick. It's so refreshing to look in the toilet and poke around at my shit, literally and figuratively! Don't think for a second that all that crud coming out doesn't have an emotional, psychic, and spiritual component. the chinese know what they're talking about. supprisingly, i haven't dealt with too much anger this cleanse, wich is what the liver is connected with. some minor frustrations, that's all. i stand by my theory that it doesn't matter which comes first the chicken or the egg. that is to say, cleanse either your mind, emotions, spirit, physical body, and the rest will naturally catch the momentum of the first. just do it and get the ball rolling. gotta start somewhere!

if you have questions or would like to do this cleanse, please let me know. i am glad to be of service as i have time. it is good for me as a phoenix fastician in training to field some questions.

Learn more by buying these two books. the first is a recipe book with recipies for the cleanse that goes over an older version of the cleanse (still powerful and no buying of herb formulas.) the second is a scientific book with info on blood formation, cellular rejuvenation, powerful therapies nobody talks about, the underlying cause of dis-ease. it has an updated super-powered version of the cleanse.

Soya products and the earth

Guys,
don´t want to spoil the party, but I´ve been working with bio diversity for the past 15 years, and there is not many things as terrifying as Soya!
PLEASE!!!! move to rice milk!
If more people would start asking for rice milk than places would start offering it as an alternative.
To make a long story short so Soya is the one thing on earth which is right now 100% genetically patented.(meaning all the soya you would ever get is exactly the same... which makes you allergic, which prevents farmers to be able to market it freely without huge co operations, which creates mega weeds and kills insects...wheat is the next, 90% patented).and organic soya is not less patented.
Also Soya is a monoculture, it has pushed the desert line in Mexico lower and lower (not reversable) and is now turning the rainforest into a desert (apart from deforestation for growing soya, also as it is genetically manipulated by default, it "preserves" the fields and no other crop can grow there after).
first link I came up with was http://www.rainforests.net/therapeoftherainforest.htm but there are thousands, please contact me if you want any more information.
If you are Vegans in order not to tortures cows (which I am) is cutting trees and damaging bio diversity your option?
and if you are Vegan for health reasons
Soya might have full protein but"
It contains high quantities of various toxic chemicals, which cannot be fully destroyed even by the long cooking
process. These are: phytates, which block the body's uptake of minerals; enzyme inhibitors, which hinder
protein digestion; and haemaggluttin, which causes red blood cells to clump together and inhibits oxygen
take-up and growth. Most controversially of all, soya contains high levels of the phytoestrogens (also known as
isoflavones) genistein and daidzein, which mimic and sometimes block the hormone oestrogen. "

i was craving something naughty, like an ice cream sundae, and that inspired this:
Combine in a small dessert bowl:

1 banana, sliced
small handful of walnuts, crushed (soaked, even better)
1 chocolate walnut Clif "Nectar" bar, cut up in small bits
a few blobs of your favorite nut butter
raw shredded coconut (optional)
a drizzle of fresh almond milk

stir it all up and eat with a spoon.

Help stop the irradiation of supplements...

Here's the latest bad idea the FDA is going to put into effect if we don't stop them:

Citizens for Health has joined with the American Herbal Products Association to oppose the irradiation of dietary supplements

Citizens for Health supports AHPA's opposition to this petition on the following grounds:

Proper handling of dietary supplements under current good manufacturing practice is usually sufficient to ensure that they are not subject to microbial contamination that presents any risk to the health of consumers of these products
If approved, the use of ionizing irradiation on herbal dietary ingredients will mask one of the factors that is currently relevant to the determination of ingredient quality, since information about microbial levels and the presence of pathogens or yeasts and molds at any time during the handling of a treated ingredient would be lost. Of particular concern are pathogens, since even if pathogenic organisms are eliminated through irradiation, pathogenic by-products such as endotoxins or exotoxins may remain in the material
Irradiation is currently allowed in the United States for eleven food categories, and in proposing that the limitation of ionizing radiation for dietary supplements be established at 30 kGy, the petition is suggesting that this limit be from 3 to 30 times higher that is currently allowed for all but two food categories. Dietary supplements may be consumed in quantities of several grams per day. Thus, dietary supplement consumers will be exposed to much higher levels of any material changes that occur in a supplement’s or ingredient’s characteristics or in its consequences of use, if any, as a result of the irradiation.

Send your letter to the FDA now!

i haven't been around for a couple years because i hadn't been raw since the beginning of my pregnancy - and my baby's 14 months old now (!) i couldn't sit as the moderator of a subject i didn't honestly live, so i took off, but i'm baaaaack. and how you've flourished without me!

i've created a blog to discuss my return to raw, among other things. please visit when you can: backtolife2.blogspot.com

in it, i'll have a Rawk Star of the Week post each friday, and it will spotlight anyone in the raw community, especially if they've "slipped" or can offer advice on responding to any lingering temptation for cooked. if you or someone you know would be interested, please send me a note or respond here.

Pasteurization of Dark Leafy Greens?? Today is the last day to comment!

I'm forwarding this note I got from my friend Rebecca. This is really sad.

hello all~

for all those concerned about our food supplies becoming even more nutrient-deprived and toxic, please read below...
and make a call/ send an email--the deadline for comments is TODAY, Monday, 3 Dec.

the idea is that the USDA is going to require that all greens be *pasteurized* prior to sale (first almonds, then leafy greens, this is crazy!!!)~and "pasteurize" is often a euphemism for "irradiate".

please follow the instructions below or call your senators and representatives directly to voice your opinion--the public comment period ends TODAY. yikes!

i dont want my lettuce cooked!
check out the links below for more information.

http://www.caff.org/foodsafety/
http://snipurl.com/1ug7d

love,
rebecca
Protect Fresh Leafy Greens and Family Farms
Federal Regulations Would Harm Sustainable Farmers and Biodiversity

We need your help in another battle to stop the slippery slope toward a sterilized and industrialized food system that threatens biodiversity and the very existence of family-scale farms that grow food in a safe, healthy, and environmentally sustainable way.

In response to the E. coli 0157 outbreaks last year in bagged spinach, the USDA is considering a change in the federal regulations that could potentially require growers of all fresh leafy green vegetables to follow specified guidelines in the fields and during post-harvest handling. The federal rules would be similar to the California guidelines that were set by large-scale operations after the outbreaks. The guidelines include growing practices that discourage biodiversity and sustainable/organic farming practices, deplete soil fertility, and create "sterile" fields—methods that have not been scientifically proven to actually reduce E. coli 0157 bacteria but are certain to reduce biodiversity, harm wildlife, and burden family-scale farms.

Small- and medium-scale farmers would bear the greatest financial and logistical burden of such specified guidelines. For example, if the rules require testing for pathogens at every harvest—as they currently do in California—then large-scale farms that grow one type of crop and harvest only one to three times per season would pay much less than smaller and more diverse farms that continually harvest many types of vegetables. If regulations dictate a single set of growing practices and food safety measures, which are appropriate for large-scale "factory farms" but not for diverse family farms, we risk losing the very farms that grow leafy greens in a healthy and sustainable way. A one-size-fits-all regulation will not work!

The rules threaten biodiversity and environmental sustainability in several ways. Farmers would be encouraged to eliminate wildlife and any vegetation that may provide habitat for wildlife. The rules also discourage the development of microbial life in the soil. These methods have not been shown to reduce the risk of harmful bacterial contamination. In fact, sustainable farming methods that promote microbial life in soil have shown to reduce E. coli 0157 because it has to compete with other microbes and is therefore less likely to thrive. However, the aim of these rules seems to be for sterile fields that support no forms of life, except for the leafy greens.

We must make our voices heard, telling the USDA that we do not support federal rules that would put a great financial and logistical burden on family-scale farmers, discourage environmentally healthy ways of farming, and harm wildlife.

Taking action is easy, but with a December 3 deadline for submitting comments to the USDA, we need your help today. Please tell the USDA that food safety is an important concern, but that mandating measures with no scientific basis that will put small farmers out of business, and harm wildlife, is not the way to go.

Please submit your comments today by downloading the sample letter below or writing your own message and posting it online (see instructions below), or faxing it in. The USDA is specifically asking citizens to comment on its plan to implement these rules, and it's important that you tell the USDA that you want to ensure access to fresh, leafy greens and that you oppose a Marketing Order or Marketing Agreement that would impose federal standards for all growers of leafy greens. Remember that every comment counts, but individualized messages/letters carry more weight than form letters.

1) To submit online:

Go to www.regulations.gov. In the middle of the screen, you will see "Search Documents."
In Step 1, choose "Documents with an open comments period"
In Step 2, choose "Department of Agriculture"
In Step 3, choose "PROPOSED RULES"
In Step 4, choose "Docket ID" and then type in "AMS-FV-07-0090"
Hit "Submit."
Next, you will see a column titled "Comments, add/due by." Click on the tiny tan dialogue icon, and you are now ready to submit your information and your comment.

2) To fax: (202) 720-8938.

** Please make sure that your letter references Docket Number AMS–FV–07–0090.

In addition to the Cornucopia website more information on this matter is available by visiting the California-based Community Alliance for Family Farmers' website at http://www.caff.org/foodsafety/. We thank CAFF for their diligence on this issue.

I'm wondering what your favorite kitchen tools are. What makes being a raw vegan easier for you? What's the best appliance you've found that makes your life easier?

I've got a OXO pearing knife & a knife sharpener that I couldn't live without.

My food processor (Hamilton Bay, cheapie from Target) has saved me tons of time I used to spend chopping & slicing.

I dunno what I'd do without my blender, but it's an old Oyster on its last blade & I'll have to replace it soon ~ any recommendations of a blender worth investing in would be greatly appreciated.

I'm seriously considering a dehydrator to start making my own crackers & stuff. Anybody have any good tips? What to look for & what to avoid?

I've been told the way to avoid this with soy is to only eat fermented soy. Any thoughts or info would be helpful.

I am new to raw foods and very interested in hearing from others who are raw foodists and people who are trying to change their lives for the better. Many people in my family have diabetes and I have changed my diet and gone raw to prevent myself from also getting diabetes.

The trailer on Youtube at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSuqCMld00w

There is also a new two-disc DVD set that is available for order called RAW FOR LIFE, which is a encyclopedia of Raw Food, perfect for beginners like me and Raw Food enthusiasts. I have found it to be very helpful, as I have been transitioning to raw foods. It’s about how to live raw, the Raw Food philosophy, why to eat a raw food diet, important medical facts and nutritional information. It’s a very practical guide to becoming raw and staying raw.

Visit the Raw For 30 Days site at:

www.rawfor30days.com

Another great resource I have found is the Raw Summit site, which is at:

www.rawsummit2.com

I joined for the first Raw Summit and found it very helpful and interesting and it’s FREE!

Raw Funky Folk in London, UK?!

I'm looking for a new living situation in London and would love to find 1-2 other people with whom to share a beautiful flat.
Are you- conscientious, live-food eater, who loves yoga, sacred space and healthy living?
If you are into shamanic plants, electronic & world music, dance, performance, art & culture then it is a plus.
I am a performer, massage therapist and creative events producer. Would ideally like to find a place with a great kitchen, open plan communal space with wood floors & good light, in the hackney, dalston or stoke newington area, but open to other suggestions. Love to create an inspiring raw, north london hub where we could occasionally hold intimate events.

Even if you are not looking for a place to live, but you live in London (or are coming to visit) please get in touch. Hoping to create more of a support network here.

Blessings and Love

hey ya'll i was wondering what you did for employment. Has the raw lifestyle changed your life in the job world, did you start your own business, work for a raw food company, teach yoga fulltime, etc? Do you even work or just have land and a garden. I am interested to see how raw food effected this.

We would love to share this amazing weekend of high vibes with as many of you as our venue can hold. So please check out the website and register soon as there is limited space.

Has anyone seen Supercharge Me? I just ordered my copy... can hardly wait.
She took the idea of Supersize Me (where he eats McDonald’s only for 30 days to show what it does to your body) and made Supercharge Me – by going raw for 30 days and showing what THAT does to you body.

Okay, that’s just brilliant. :)

Here’s the trailer: http://30daysraw.com/trailer/

They are going to be playing it at the Raw Spirit Festival in Sedona this October. I’m still trying to decide whether I’m going to make it, but it looks like it’s going to be quite the event. http://www.rawspiritfest.com...

hmmm....I may go.....
