I have some very special avocado seeds that come from my grandmothers tree. These are a special crop that was imported from Guatemala, but is third generation california grown. These blow Hass avocados out of the water, along with anything you are likely to find at a grocery story.
If anybody wants a few seeds Im giving them away. If you get me back for the postage that would be cool though.

Re: Avocado seeds
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 10:05 PMKind of you to offer to share! Any idea how long it takes to go from a seed to a tree producing fruit? And any idea how picky they may be about climate? I'm guessing they need a fairly tropical or at least pretty wet climate. I'd love to grow my own avacados, but I live in central Texas ~ mostly hot & dry 6 mos & wacky & unpredictable 12 mos :) -

Re: Avocado seeds
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 10:08 PMWell, these grew just north of Los Angeles, and I live in the SF Bay Area. They have done pretty well around the coast.
It can take around 5 years for it to start producing fruit, but once it does its a gold mine of food.

i have had them for about 4yrs or so, and they should fruit hopefully with in the next year. suuuupppper excited about that!
but a new addition is always welcome!
lyoness: am in austin, which is also central texas.... it gets hot, but i just keep the soil moist and full of good organic nutrients. =)
it will take a good few years for them to get big, but they are such awesome trees with lovely big green leaves, they make a wonderful addition to any garden.
