i went raw last year and lasted about six months. i am back on the path now, and its been about two weeks so far. when i went raw last year, i lost 30 lbs of excess weight i was carrying. since that time i've put back on about as much.

so my question is this - if i am trying to achieve my natural weight (among wonderful health as well) through raw food then should i be limiting my intake, or will it just come off naturally? last year when i lost the weight i ate as much as i wanted, whenever i wanted, and whatever i wanted so long as it was raw. the weight just came right off me.

but this time the number on the scale isnt budging. should i limit my sugars, or restrict my intake? or just wait and see how my body reacts and adjusts? your thoughts, please?

ive found for myself that being raw isnt enough
cleansing is a big part of it & if you are eating a diet of high fruit & greens, fruits can initiate bloating, which again for me, why ive found cleansing so important. if you've heard of dr. andersons "arise & shine" cleanse its a great one...its an intestinal cleanse & was what helped me go raw & stay raw
if you havent looked into cleansing i would strongly recommend it...for me it goes hand in hand with eating live food...
if you want to look into a simpler cleanse that isnt so jarring...because intestinal cleansing can be for some people, dr. millers "holy tea" is a nice one- it more of a liver cleanse, but all the same still very powerful
=] hope thats somewhere to start

    I am really curious now.

What is it you were doing then that you aren't doing now?... Or what is it that you are now doing that you weren't doing then?
Because if all things are the same now as then, then the results should be pretty similar.... you would think.

Consider a colon cleanse, then a liver/ gall bladder cleanse. That will help restart your system and will take off some weight right away.
What are you doing for excercise?
Are you eating tons of nuts and sugars???

Maybe what I should find out about is...
what have you been doing in between time? Could it be that something you've either been doing, or else not doing, has had some effect on the metabolism that's changed things around some. Think.

I've been raw for 10 weeks, losing an average of 3 to 5 pounds a week.

I was about 45 pounds overweight, and as the pounds dropped off my health problems started vanishing with them.

    My diet consisted of:
a green drink in the morning
    Fruit and nuts around noon
Dried fruit and spirulina in the afternoon
and a sensible salad (avocado or mushroom) in the early evening.

Then my life encountered an abominable amount of stress. What a blessing!
I stopped eating regularly and turned to the wonders of vodka and downers, and last week I lost 17.5 pounds!

I reached my target goal 3 months early! I've lost almost 70 pounds in 10 weeks!

Take it from me kids - stress and depression is what you are looking for in a weight loss program!

The older we get, the more difficult it is to release weight, in my experience. I did the raw diet two years ago and easily released 30 lbs in 4 months eating as much as I wanted. I was never hungry.

This time, I'm 58 and it seems more difficult. It took more time to start the lbs releasing. (I read that we should condition our minds to release weight--not lose it. When we lose something, we're constantly trying to find it again, subconsciously speaking.) But in 3.5 weeks now, I've released 7.5 lbs. I am letting myself go hungry more this time. I have a tendency to eat too much at night and I'm trying to curb that. Plus, all my usual favorite things to eat like cheese and crackers are gone from my apartment now.

As for colon cleansing, I like Jon Barron's product, Colon Correction. His company is called Baseline Nutritionals. It's gentle, works every time, and seems safe to use daily, if needed. It strengthens the colon. He also has various herbal products of very high quality for cleansing. I've been using this product for a long time, so perhaps this is why I don't have problems going 100% raw instantly

I eat 3 fruits in the morning: 1 small apple, 1 Valencia orange because I like them juicy, and some strawbs or blubes or kiwi. I tend to need 3 TBS of ground flax or some chopped nuts on top because I'm pre-diabetic and the sugars in the fruits seem to be too much without some mitigating protein. I know this is bad food combining, but I don't notice any problems from it.

I have a very large mixed green salad that includes lots of sprouts--alfalfa, pea sprouts, mung bean, and/or sunflower sprouts. It has shredded carrot, shredded beets on occasion, romaine, spinach, shredded cabbage, avocado, sometimes pumpkin seeds, dulse, broccoli, and dressing.

Dinner is a hodgepodge. Maybe I'll make a smoothie, or maybe marinara sauce over zucchini noodles, or a green soup made with sprouts, etc.or I just eat a bunch of flax crackers. I eat olives or dates sometimes later when I still feel hungry. Or a handful of goji berries, or a handful of nuts.

This might be a high fat diet, but I seem to need it or I get that hypo-glycemic reaction.

There's really no easy fix --- especially with eating so interconnected with comfort levels, self-rewarding, and a bit of a serotonin high.

Going green, going wholesome, going healthy, all helps.
Activity helps to burn off some lard.

Think of how much badder it could be if we didn't eat scientifically, technically,... if we just stuffed s%#t down our throats mindlessly, like most media-compelled consumers out there.

Efforts need to be redoubled. Purification needs constant advance to new levels. If you're vegetarian, you need to be vegan. If you're vegan you need to be rawfood vegan. If you're rawfood vegan, you need to use less spices on the one hand, and to masticate your food more on the other, in place of machine-processing it down to a soft puree. You need to be able to tell yourself you're moving forward with this thing.

    Anastasia,
the problem seems to be your weight gain in between. This is the reason why yo - yo dieting never works (I', not saying you do ;-)) but it has to do with the metabolism your body adapts to. Once you've lost weight really quickly, when you ate more calories again, your body thought it has to hold on to the food more rigidly, in case it will be "starved" again. So the next time around it's a lot harder to loose the weight.
My advice is to eat as much raw as possible, eat lots of plant food, seeds & nuts, vegetables and fruit, and eat as much as you like of it. It's ok if you loose the weight slowly. More likely it will stay off this time, if you take it easier on you.
