An herbivore is an animal that is adapted to eat primarily plant matter (rather than meat)
An omnivore (from Latin: omne all, everything; vorare to devour) is a species of animal that eats both plants and animals as its primary food source.

what do you think?
Do you think humans should eat like Herbivores?
I'm thinking that the human biology has evolved to nurture from both plant and animal..not exclusively plant.
I consider myself an omnivore and act accordingly..but I wish I where an Herbivore. i am seeking my way to become like an Herbivore

Re: do you consider humans as Herbivore?
Sat, April 26, 2008 - 1:05 PMAnthropologically speaking, we evolved primarily as herbivores but the majority of our ancestors who survived the last ice age adapted to become omnivores. So at this point in our evolutionary development, we are technically omnivores, but we are much closer to herbivores than carnivores if you look at our digestive track.
Im 100% vegan, and I like being this way. I dont think that most people require meat to be healthy, but there are certain human populations such as the Inuit who have a much much harder time subsisting on a vegan diet than other populations. It is thought by many that people with Type A blood do best on a vegan diet, and type B can go either way, while type O have the hardest time on vegan diets and are more prone to iron deficiency.
This is disputed though. Not everybody believes in the blood type diets, but I have seen anecdotal evidence to support this. -

Re: do you consider humans as Herbivore?
Sat, April 26, 2008 - 1:10 PMI'm B type.. so I am glad to know that it won't be difficult to be on Vegan diet.
My sister is a vegan.
I dislike eating meat.. but i have not taken ownership of my diet.. I just eat what I am put in the table. It would make it very difficult to ask that I be given a raw vegan diet since I don't know what that would be to begin with..
this is why I am here .. to learn and try it out...but first.. I need to educate myself. -

Re: do you consider humans as Herbivore?
Sat, April 26, 2008 - 1:23 PMMy opinion is that much of the "Eat right for your blood type" is based on weak science. However, I think there may be some truth to philosophy, as type O blood types are often associated with the types of climates that populations such as the Inuit thrive in, and type A is found where there was a lot more vegetation and grains. I just think that some of the explanations are a little shaky. There may be other factors though that exist in the digestive system rather than blood.

Re: do you consider humans as Herbivore?
Sat, April 26, 2008 - 1:23 PMWell...I felt 100% better after I started eating vegetarian. The weird thing is I've always had a low hematocrit and been moderately anemic. I assumed it would only get worse with a vegetarian diet. Shock of shock, it got better, way better. I went from a 32 to a 43 hct ! I am a blood type A and do really well on a vegetarian diet. It does seem the blood type theory pans out for me at least, and I really don't miss meat either. My husband is a type O and I can't get him off it :( Anyway, I think you're going to feel much better, at least I did. Good luck! -

Re: do you consider humans as Herbivore?
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 11:39 PMPhysically humans may be omnivores, but I am very grateful that we can live quite healthy lives as herbivores if we so choose.
